The Madrid City Council has decided to close municipal sports centers, cultural centers, libraries and theaters , as well as suspend all sports and cultural events in the city "extraordinarily" for 15 days from Thursday, March 12, according to The Mayor and Vice Mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida and Begoña Villacís, have confirmed

Within these suspensions are all those activities that affect municipal centers for the elderly, dance and music schools, nursery schools -which will be closed and without staff-, public libraries, museums, theaters of the City Council network, sports centers, events sports like popular races or the half marathon, as well as the group activities of Madrid Salud.

After the emergency meeting of the Municipal Cabinet , which has been extended for two hours, the main municipal representatives have announced this package of measures that will be effective as of Thursday, when the Treasury Area makes the corresponding decrees effective.

The Consistory continues the line marked by the Community of Madrid and the central government that have been forced to close educational centers, restrict entry to sporting events or suspend the travel of the Imserso before the 1,639 cases diagnosed and the 36 dead due to virus throughout the national scene that Madrid leads with 782 affected.

In addition to the planned closures, the Consistory has indicated that activity in group performances such as the Creepers, Big House, Youth Centers will also be limited; Outpatient center for Social Services, Support and Care for Families and children, and centers for the homeless.

According to municipal political representatives, the City Council of the capital will also bet on the reconciliation of its staff of officials. In this area, the corporation will "empower them with various mechanisms" such as teleworking, negotiation with the unions to extend the 10 days of conciliation included in their collective agreement and make flexible the entry times to avoid peak hours in public transport.
