Dubai Roads and Transport Authority has completed a comprehensive maintenance program for the first metro train, covering a distance of one million and 500 thousand km, as part of the second phase of comprehensive maintenance of the entire fleet of trains, currently 79 trains.

"The implementation of the first stage of comprehensive maintenance of the trains was carried out after traveling over a distance of 600,000 km, and the beginning of this year began the work of the second phase," Mohammed Hassan Al-Amiri, Director of the Railways Maintenance Department at the Rail Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, told Emirates Today. It will include conducting comprehensive maintenance operations for 20 trains, traveling one million and 500,000 km, to continue maintenance work to include the entire fleet of trains. ”

Al-Amiri stated that the specialized technical team is about to complete the main maintenance work for the second train, which covered one million and 500 thousand kilometers, noting that it is not necessary to change all the parts that make up the operational body of the train, as some of them are calibrated only and returned to their place, after proving its efficiency, while Other parts are lubricated, parts are malfunctioned, or replaced with other parts according to the type of malfunction.

Al-Amiri explained that the comprehensive maintenance of the train takes from 15 to 20 days, and begins placing it on a track that can hold its length of about 85 meters, as its upper structure is raised and separated from the 10 tires or iron entities that carry it, and each of these tires is called Bogie, Where these tires or iron entities form a base for the train body, Bogie is also one of the most important parts of the operating body of the train, each of which consists of a motor, a brake system and a suspension system responsible for the stability and balance of the vehicle, as well as the wheels.

Al-Amiri revealed that the implementation of maintenance work is not only related to the size of kilometers covered by the train, pointing to the implementation of periodic programs every three months, and every six months, for each of the trains in service, each according to his technical file, which includes a complete record of the efficiency of his equipment, and maintenance work There are two types: a major maintenance program that requires a minimum of 15 days, and a secondary maintenance program that is implemented throughout the year and implemented every three months.

Al-Amiri said: “After the completion of the comprehensive and main maintenance of the train, the efficiency of the work of its equipment is checked according to an effective mechanism that ensures that it works in a safe and secure manner, before it is placed again in the passenger service, where the train is transferred to the track designated for the test area located inside the maintenance workshop , To cover over a distance of 200 km back and forth, before being tested on the external metro service paths, but without passengers, adding that if the efficiency is confirmed, he is allowed to return to work and operate it as usual without a driver.

The works of the first phase included the comprehensive maintenance of 79 trains that covered 600,000 km.
