Zhao Qunying, director of the Emergency Management Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, told reporters in Beijing on the 10th that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment closely monitors the operation of medical waste disposal facilities. At present, there are 487 centralized medical waste disposal units in 358 cities in 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government, and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The average daily actual disposal capacity is 6022 tons, an increase of 4902.8 tons from the average daily disposal capacity before January 20. The average daily disposal capacity is 1119.2 tons, an increase of 23%.

According to reports, since the outbreak of the epidemic situation, the amount of medical waste collected across the country has been increasing. With the increase in disposal capacity, the load rate of centralized disposal facilities has remained at about 50%, and the overall disposal capacity can meet the needs of medical waste disposal. For example, on March 7, a total of 3198.7 tons of medical waste were collected nationwide, and 3249.9 tons were actually disposed of centrally, with an average operating load rate of 54%. From January 20 to March 7, 2020, a total of 136,000 tons of medical waste was disposed of throughout the country, and the medical waste involved in the epidemic situation was basically "Nissan and Nissan."

Zhao Qunying said that the pressure on medical waste disposal in Hubei Province and Wuhan is high. At one time, the accumulation of medical waste occurred in Wuhan. At most, about 190 tons were temporarily stored in the warehouse, and all of them were cleared and disposed of on March 2. On March 7, Hubei Province ’s daily medical waste disposal capacity reached an average of 665.6 tons, an increase of 485.6 tons in emergency response capacity, an increase of 2.7 times from the daily average of 180 tons before January 20.
