China's most powerful man has flown to Hubei for an "inspection", reported the official Chinese agency Xinhua. Xi will meet with health workers who have been on the front lines for weeks, military and local officials, police officers, patients and city dwellers.

On the day the closing of the last two of the 16 emergency hospitals in the midst of the crisis is expected, Xi "will visit and greet the health workers, military officials and soldiers, community workers, officers police, officials and volunteers who fought the frontline epidemic, as well as patients and residents during its inspection, "reported the official Xinhua agency.

The Hubei province reported 17 new deaths yesterday, all in the capital Wuhan, where 14,957 people are still hospitalized, against 47,585 recovered. Xi, in recent weeks, had sent Premier Li Leqiang to Wuhan to verify field operations by designating him as head of an epidemic task force.
