Lack of nurses and overcrowding in the Västernorrland region. For the week, the regional management will determine their plans for the summer staffing.

"The most important thing is to make sure that our employees get their statutory holiday," says Lena Carlsson, hospital director in the Västernorrland region.

Something that the regional management mainly overlooks is the situation in the health departments. Where members of the Healthcare Association in Västernorrland are already on their knees.

"Many of our members are already crying today and express that they do not even know if they will be able to cope until the summer," says Åsa Holgersson, who is chairman of the Västernorrland Health Care Association and head of protection.

Management: "Aware of the situation"

Lena Carlsson states that the regional management is well aware of the pressured situation and this is solved with, among other things, relay staff. They also look at what tasks can be transferred from nurses in particular to other competencies.

One suggestion from the head of operations at the women's clinic has been to close Örnsköldsvik's BB for two weeks, among other things, to ensure that everyone gets a holiday.

"Tough location"

More departments can be merged than last year due to the shortage of nurses, which is a tough situation, says Åsa Holgersson of the Healthcare Association.

The Västernorrland region recently agreed to reduce the cost of hiring staff by SEK 100 million. Something that the Health Care Association does not think the region will do.

- Then you have to be attractive as an employer and have something to offer in order for employees to want to stay and take a permanent job, says Åsa Holgersson.
