The opposition between the ruling and opposition parties continues to follow the proposal of Governor Kim Kyung-soo to pay disaster-based basic income to all citizens.

Yesterday (8th) Kim Kyung-soo, the governor of Gyeongnam, held a briefing on Corona19 at the press center of the Gyeongnam Provincial Office and proposed to temporarily support 1 million won of disaster basic income per person.

Governor Kim said, “We need special measures to drastically grow the domestic market.” In order to avoid wasting time and administrative costs in selecting candidates, the Governor first needs all citizens and then needs disaster basic income. For high-income people who don't, we've offered an alternative to recollecting taxes.

If Governor Kim's proposal becomes a reality, it is estimated that he will need about 51 trillion won in resources. Governor Kim explained, "The government's fiscal burden can be greatly eased depending on how much of the high-income household's basic income is returned to tax next year."

"Now it's time to make a bold decision and make quick moves," he said. "Disaster basic income is not just cash welfare. It's a big investment to save a stagnant domestic market."

The response of the opposition to Kim's proposal is mixed.

The governor Lee Jae-myung, who made similar arguments earlier, said through his Facebook, "It is the only policy that will revive economic trends and ensure sustainable growth." Is coming out, and there's an unprecedented view that it's just a populist proposal ahead of next month's general election.
