Investigations are underway to reconstruct the details of the incident that took place in circumstances still to be clarified.

The revolt, called "very violent", broke out in the early afternoon. Many prisoners involved and damage to the structure. At the base of the revolt the protest of the detainees for questions related to the protection from the Coronavirus and the arrest in talks with family members.

In the late evening, the staff of the Penitentiary Police returned to the "Sant'Anna" District House. Free agents from the service were also called to quell the uprising.

The staff of the district house, during the sudden uprising, about twenty people among policemen and health workers, came out of prison. During the most frenetic phases of the riot, two officers were slightly injured.

In addition, some seventy to eighty prisoners were transferred to Modena in other prisons. These are prisoners who had managed to reach the courtyard to try to escape. Sappe union leaders reported this. According to the secretary of the union Giovanni Battista Durante: "It seems that the Registration Office where the files of the detainees are kept has also been set on fire."

Protests in Italian prisons, which resulted in revolt for prevention measures from Covid-19, started from Salerno to extend to Modena, Naples, Frosinone. The district houses of Vercelli, Alessandria and Foggia are also interested. In Naples, the relatives of the detainees also participated in the protest.
