The boss and founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, whom the investment fund Elliott would seek to oust, announced Thursday that he was reconsidering his plan to spend part of the year in Africa, citing in particular the epidemic of new coronavirus.

"I studied my plan to work in a decentralized way, as we do, with my team, when we are on the move, but in light of the Covid-19 and everything that happens elsewhere, I preferred reconsider this, "he wrote on Twitter's investor relations Twitter account.

"Anyway, we will continue to look for opportunities in Africa," he added.

The announcement by Jack Dorsey comes a week after US media reported plans for the investment fund Elliott Management to dismiss the boss of Twitter.

According to the CNBC chain, the fund of the American businessman Paul Singer criticizes him for his intention to leave for Africa, and the fact of not devoting himself 100% to Twitter, since Jack Dorsey also runs Square, another company he founded, specializing in digital payment.

Always Thursday, during a conference dedicated to investors and organized by Morgan Stanley, Jack Dorsey described as "error" the announcement of his departure, believing to have failed to explain the reasons.

He argued that the move to Africa was not a plan to "just rest or take a sabbatical", but to help demonstrate the value of working remotely and "understand how not to be overloaded because of the spindles hours".

He said he preferred to question his project because of the global coronavirus epidemic: because of "everything that is happening in the world, especially around the coronavirus, I must reconsider (...) what it means for me and for our business. "

In November, after a visit to several countries of the continent, Jack Dorsey, founder of the social network Twitter and figure of Silicon Valley, had announced his intention to spend 3 to 6 months of the year in Africa.
