The UAE has strongly condemned the terrorist attack that targeted a security patrol near the US embassy in Tunis, and killed one security man and wounded others.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation affirmed that the UAE expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing security and stability and is incompatible with religious and human values ​​and principles.

The Ministry also expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the family and relatives of the victim due to this heinous crime, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.

Yesterday, the Tunisian Ministry of the Interior announced the killing of terrorists and a police officer, and the injury of five security personnel, in addition to a civilian, following a terrorist attack carried out by two suicide bombers on a motorbike that targeted the security personnel near the American embassy in Tunis.

The Ministry of the Interior said that terrorists on a motorcycle blew themselves up outside the US embassy in Tunis, killing one police officer and killing the suicide bombers, and wounding five policemen, while a civilian was slightly injured.

The explosion took place near the main gate of the embassy, ​​where a burnt and broken motorcycle and a police car were seen damaged, while police gathered and a helicopter circled over the place.

For its part, the official Tunisian News Agency, quoting a source in the Civil Protection, said, "Yesterday, two terrorists blew themselves up near a security patrol in the vicinity of the American embassy in Tunisia."

Two local radio stations reported the death of a security officer, with the rank of lieutenant, as a result of his wounds in hospital, after he underwent an urgent operation. Radio Mosaique had mentioned that a terrorist "on a motorcycle, detonated himself with an explosive belt, targeting a security patrol on the road next to the US embassy in the Lake District."

Tunisian media have identified the suicide bombers, Salim Aznadi and Habib Laika, and they were previously arrested on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization. The security forces closed the windows leading to the Beheira region and the northern suburbs of Tunisia in anticipation of the presence of any other terrorist.

A photojournalist in the area of ​​the accident reported that anti-terrorist teams cordoned off the scene of the explosion and closed a number of roads leading to it, while the technical police resolved to collect evidence.

The photographer said that there was a state of panic among the citizens who gathered near the American embassy and a building that belonged to the Egyptian embassy.

Pictures of passers-by showed panicked near the embassy headquarters in the banks of the lake, a few kilometers from the center of the capital.

The embassy is located in the upscale Lake District, which includes the headquarters of several embassies and official missions.
