Cameroon: two cases of coronavirus confirmed

A second case of coronavirus was confirmed this Friday at the end of the day by the Cameroonian authorities, after a first press release announcing earlier the identification of a first coronavirus patient.

Read moreThe press release of the Minister of Health published this Friday provides very little information on the case of this patient announced in isolation in a formation at the central hospital of Yaoundé. Manaouda Malachie is content to just inform that the patient is of French nationality and that he is 58 years old. He adds that he arrived in Cameroon on February 24.

It therefore took 11 days, 11 long days, until the announcement of its contamination and which are already the source of all the questions. Where did he go? Who did he meet?
According to initial investigations, this patient actually arrived in Yaoundé on February 24 by an Air France flight having stopped in Bangui. He freely left the airport and moved to his home in a residential area of the capital.

In the late afternoon, also this Friday, a second press release from the Minister of Health announced a second case of covid-19 contamination. This time it is a Cameroonian woman who he said was in contact with the first confirmed subject. Despite these two proven cases, the government is trying to temper the anxiety among the populations and reassures that the situation is still under control.
