Recently, the troubled situation in the Idlib province of Syria has escalated and both Turkish and Syrian soldiers have been killed.

On Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in Moscow to discuss the situation in Syria.

The two leaders stand on different sides of the conflict. Russia supports Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Turkey, for its part, supports rebel groups in the Idlib province that want the largest regime.

When, before their meeting, they met with the press, Putin lamented that the Turkish soldiers had been killed.

"We need a discussion about the situation to prevent similar events from happening again, and not to damage the relationship between Russia and Turkey, which we protect," says Putin according to AP.

Erdogan, for his part, says he hopes that the decisions made during the meeting will make the situation in Idlib province less tense.

- The eyes of the world are directed at us. The steps and decisions we take today will reduce the tension in the area and in our own countries, says Erdogan according to AP.
