Golden State point guard Stephen Curry admitted on Thursday that he hopes to compete in the Tokyo Olympics this summer, even though he missed 58 games due to a hand injury.

"There is still a long time between now and the Olympics, they have always been in my sights," assured the triple NBA champion.

"But I only started to think about it seriously very recently, when I started to feel that I was ready to play again," he continued.

"My priority at the moment is simply to get back in shape during the last twenty games (of the regular season of the NBA Championship, note), to find rhythm and my level of play", underlined the double MVP (2015 and 2016).

Curry, 31, fractured his left hand on October 30, just a few days after the start of the 2019-20 season.

He has yet to replay with the Warriors in the NBA, but his return to competition is expected by mid-March.

The Warriors leader is one of 44 American players pre-selected for the Olympics by San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who will lead "Team USA" in Tokyo this summer.

His assistants include Curry's Golden State coach Steve Kerr.

With "Team USA", Curry won the world title at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups, but has never participated in the Olympic Games. He was pre-selected for the Rio 2016 Olympics, but ultimately declined his selection.
