It was at 19 o'clock on Thursday evening that a passenger train on the way to Gävle collided with a truck just north of Hofors.

Five people have been injured and taken to hospitals in Falun and Gävle.

"I can't comment on how seriously injured they are," says Martin Johansson, internal commander at the Gästrike Rescue Service.

Large rescue effort

Large rescue efforts were deployed when the emergency alert came. Five ambulances, one rescue helicopter and personnel from the rescue service were dispatched to the accident.

A bus was sent to the scene of the accident to take the passengers who had survived unharmed to their destinations. By 21.30 the train had been evacuated and no travelers were left at the scene.

"The rescue service has finished on the site and handed over to Banverket," says Martin Johansson, internal commander at Gästrike Rescue Service.

The police are investigating the accident

At the time of the accident, 24 people, including staff, traveled by train. According to the police, the incident will be investigated as carelessness in traffic and causing bodily harm.
