“We are convinced that today the only mechanism in Syria that has allowed us to seriously reduce the level of violence and take a step towards establishing stability is the Astana process,” Zarifa quoted the agency IRNA.

The minister said that a meeting in this format should be held as soon as possible.

He also added that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed this need during a telephone conversation with him.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow is committed to strictly fulfilling its obligations under the Astana process and the Idlib memorandum.
