The Egyptian authorities executed the death sentence against the terrorist Hisham Ashmawi, who is accused of terrorism-related cases, this morning.

On Monday, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced Ashmawi to death by hanging, in addition to 36 members of the "Jerusalem" organization.

The defendants were convicted of 54 crimes, including the attempt to assassinate former Egyptian Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim, the assassination of police officers, as well as the bombing of security sites.

The court sentenced to life imprisonment for 61 accused, and aggravated imprisonment between 5, 10 and 15 years for 41 other accused.

Ashmawi was working as a lightning bolt officer in the Egyptian army. He was brought to trial in 2007 due to his hard-line ideas, and he was finally dismissed from the army in 2011.

He then joined the "Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis" group in Sinai, but defected from it and pledged allegiance to ISIS in November 2014, and fled to Libya and was stationed in the city of Derna before being arrested.
