A teenager was arrested on Tuesday in Houston (United States) after shooting her nephew with a gun. The girl wanted to film herself with a gun in her hand, according to the Texas police.

Caitlyn Smith, 19, was arrested for "grievous bodily harm to a child," the Harris County sheriff, where the incident occurred, said on Twitter. The young woman was guarding her nephew on Tuesday when she pulled out a gun, reports ABC.

Update: the 10-yr-old child is listed in serious condition but is expected to make a full recovery. Detained

She filmed herself with her cell phone pointing the weapon in several directions, finger on the trigger. She then allegedly accidentally shot in the womb of her nephew. The child, who was in serious condition, was operated on. According to the sheriff, however, a "complete recovery" is to be hoped for.

Caitlyn Smith was detained this Thursday at Harris County prison, according to local media. In 2018, the U.S. National Center for Injury Prevention and Control counted 458 deaths from a gun accident in the United States.
