Yesterday, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, decided to lift the extraordinary session of parliament to give confidence to the government of Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, and to delay it until today, because the quorum was not completed. Al-Halbousi said in a press statement that "today is the deadline for the Prime Minister-designate to form the new government."

With this postponement, the Iraqi parliament failed, for the second time in a matter of days, to resolve the issue of granting confidence to the new government, and the Kurdish and Sunni blocs and the State of Law coalition led by Nuri al-Maliki and the victory coalition led by Haider al-Abadi announced that there was no defect in the quorum Led to it lifted.

The head of the Arab Project bloc in the Iraqi parliament, Representative Ahmad Al-Jarba, said that "the government formation will not go with the same names that spread through the media and social media, but there will be a change in some names." He pointed out that the bloc has submitted several requests formally, including the lack of Neglecting the legitimate demands of the protesters, and revealing the bodies that caused the killing of the demonstrators.

A member of the State of Law Coalition, Muhammad Shia'a Al-Sudani said: “The reasons for rejecting the cabinet formation are still unresolved, and there is an official position on the Kurdish and Sunni constituents, due to their observations on the way the cabinet is formed.” He stressed that the parties supporting the government will not risk excluding the Kurds and Sunnis from the government’s formation, Because this is a strategic mistake, and the government must be inclusive of all sectors of society.

He added that «one of the most important reasons for rejection is the many observations made by members of the cabinet, and it is very clear that the Prime Minister-designate made a fatal mistake by relying on figures who do not have any administrative experience in Iraq», he said.

Protesters flocked to Tahrir Square in Baghdad and other Iraqi regions yesterday to demand the formation of an independent government away from sectarian and partisan quotas.
