Greek Minister for Civil Protection, Michalis Crisochoidis, said after a visit to the border that the situation is "difficult and unpleasant".

- Thousands of unhappy people are pushing towards our border. They have not come here on their own accord, they have been pressed, rejected and exploited by our neighbor Turkey, Crisochoidis said according to the AP news agency.

He pointed out that no one will be admitted into the country without valid travel documents.

Turkey: Shameless of Greece

Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu responded on Twitter.

“Look who educates us about international law! They shamelessly shed tear gas grenades on thousands of innocents gathered at their gates, ”he wrote.

"We have no obligation to prevent people from leaving our country, but Greece has an obligation to treat them as human beings," the Foreign Minister wrote.

Reconcilable EU message

Turkey's actions mean that the future is uncertain for the refugee agreement with the EU from 2016. However, the official reactions from the EU have so far been cautious and conciliatory.

Charles Michel, Permanent President of EU Summits, announces in a press release that the EU is working to uphold the agreement with Turkey.

It also states that he spoke on the phone with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and expressed his condolences to the 33 Turkish soldiers killed in an air raid in Syria on Thursday. He also expressed his deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Idlib province.
