Dubai Police launched the first smart device on pedestrian traffic crossings, to monitor and control vehicles that are not committed to giving priority to pedestrians at sites designated for their transit.

The Director of the Traffic Department in the Dubai Police, Brigadier Saif Muheir Al Mazrouei, said that the device is powered by a solar energy system, and it is equipped with sensors through which it can identify the movement of pedestrian crossing on both sides of the road, and video cameras to prove the situation, in addition to linking it via the «4G system »Automatic platform handling irregularities.

He added that the device issued a red traffic light to warn the drivers of the vehicles to stop and give priority to pedestrians to cross, and in case the driver did not adhere to stop, the vehicle would be photographed, and a traffic violation would be issued against the driver with the text of "not to give priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their transit."

Al Mazrouei stressed that the launch of the device comes within the framework of the Dubai Police’s keenness to give all road users, drivers, passengers and pedestrians, their rights to use the road in a safe manner, and to enhance compliance with traffic regulations and laws, noting that the device will contribute to raising the level of traffic safety and achieve the strategic goals represented by Maintaining road security and reducing run over cases at pedestrian crossings.
