The Dubai Police General Department has launched the first smart device in pedestrian traffic crossings to monitor and control vehicles that are not committed to giving priority to pedestrians at sites designated for their transit.

Brigadier Saif Muheir Al Mazrouei, Director of the Traffic Department in Dubai Police, said that the device is powered by a solar energy system, and it is equipped with sensors through which it can identify the movement of pedestrian crossing on both sides of the road, and it monitors vehicles by videotaping them to prove the situation, in addition to connecting it via a system (4G) automatic platform violation processing.

He added that the device issued a red light signal to warn the drivers of the need to stop and give priority to pedestrians to cross, and in the event that the driver did not commit to stop at the crossing, he would photograph the vehicle, and a traffic violation against the driver would be issued against the text of not giving priority to pedestrians in the places designated for their transit.

He stressed that the launch of the device comes within the framework of Dubai Police’s keenness to give all road users, drivers, passengers and pedestrians their rights to use the road in a safe manner, and raise the level of commitment to traffic regulations and laws, noting that the device will contribute to raising the level of traffic safety, and achieve the strategic goals of keeping Road security and reducing run over cases at pedestrian crossings.
