A front associated with the Atlantic storm "Jorge", located in the surroundings of Ireland, will leave adverse weather from Friday, with rain, wind, waves and falling temperatures - in the northwest, which will generalize the end of week to receive March with more atmosphere of the time .

"This is a radical change of weather that at all indicates that the winter is over, " said Fernando Garcia, spokesman for the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), who has insisted that, after weeks of stability for the persistent anticyclone "that has left us an unusual environment", this storm "secures the rain and gives a glimmer of hope".

In fact, this Friday the Aemet has activated orange-level warnings - important risk - in the Atlantic coast of Galicia due to waves and strong wind, and in the area of Liébana (Picos de Europa), where gusts exceeding 100 kilometers are expected per hour.

Also haze is prominent in much of the interior of the peninsula "after leaving the Canary Islands by the configuration of winds that brings this front" phenomenon, but "just let the heavens somewhat murky and slightly reduce visibility , " said the spokesman .

The stormy 'Jorge', which moves towards the Scandinavian countries, will be responsible for the expected change of time from Saturday, the last day of February, when the front will leave heavy rainfall and winds in Galicia and will move eastward, with a general increase in cloudiness in the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, while the Canary Islands will remain under the trade fair regime.

The rains will spread through the Pyrenees and Cantabrian and Atlantic slopes, the maximum temperatures will plummet "between 4 and 5 degrees on average in both plateaus to get closer to normal values" and will remain at the moment in the Mediterranean regions, where "they will even rise 2 or 3 degrees to accumulate anomalies between 5 and 7 degrees, "while the winds will blow with very strong gusts in the peninsular northwest and mountainous areas.

Day by day forecast

The orange level warnings affect the Atlantic and Cantabrian coastlines on Saturday, where waves of 5 to 6 meters are expected, and inside Galicia and Picos de Europa, where wind gusts of over 100 kilometers per hour will blow.

"The progressive weakening of the anticyclone will create a kind of street for the entry of successive fronts," which will leave rain in large areas of the country, Fernando García explained, although "there is greater uncertainty as the weekly prediction progresses."

Thus, on Sunday a frontal system will cross the peninsula and Balearic Islands from west to east with similar characteristics to Saturday, although with more widespread rainfall on the Atlantic and intense slopes , especially in Galicia, where they can be persistent and locally strong, and snow will appear in average dimensions (1,000 to 1,200 meters) of the northern mountain systems.

A new "very active" Atlantic storm will cross the peninsular north third from west to east on Monday and will be located at the end of the day in the surroundings of the Balearic Islands, leaving widespread rains , except south of the Ebro, which could be persistent and / or locally strong and with storms in Galicia, Cantabrian and the main mountainous systems, significant snowfall in the mountains of the center and north, clearly downward temperatures and strong wind in large areas of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands.

From Tuesday, the fronts will continue to affect the northern peninsular half, but with generally weak rainfall, more likely the further north, more intense in Galicia and in the form of snow in the Cantabrian Mountains and Pyrenees, while in the middle Southern and Mediterranean area will be unlikely until the weekend.
