“The substantive exchange of views on the situation in Syria continued. Serious concern was expressed about the escalation of tensions in Idlib, resulting in numerous casualties, including among Turkish troops. The importance of increasing the effectiveness of coordination through the channels of the Russian and Turkish defense ministries was emphasized, ”the Kremlin website said in a statement.

The parties emphasized the need for additional measures to normalize the situation in northwestern Syria. The two leaders also agreed to work out the possibility of a summit meeting.

Earlier, a telephone conversation between the two leaders was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

On February 28, Ankara reported that the Turkish military fell under fire in Idlib. According to recent reports, 33 people became victims of airstrike. The Russian Ministry of Defense commented on this situation.
