February 27, 2020 The mayor of Taranto has signed an order with which he requests ArcelorMittal and Ilva in As to identify the plants affected by the emission phenomena that continue to be recorded "eliminating any critical elements and related anomalies within 30 days ". If "the sections of the plant subject to anomalies have been identified" and "the critical issues have not been resolved", order "to start and complete the activities suspension / stop procedures".

If the critical issues are not resolved in the times indicated, the mayor Rinaldo Melucci orders ArcelorMittal and Ilva in As, each for its own competence and responsibility, "to start and complete, in the technical times strictly necessary to guarantee its safety, and in any case no later than 60 days from this provision, the stopping procedures of the following plants: Blast furnaces, Coke ovens, Agglomeration, Steelworks ".

It also asks "to proceed, where necessary for purposes related to safety reasons, to the suspension / stop of the activities related to the plants functionally connected to the aforementioned plants". Any requests "to extend the deadlines set forth above - warns the mayor - may only be linked to technical / plant engineering and safety reasons in the execution of the stop procedures".

The order is also sent to the Ministry of the Environment, Prefect of Taranto, Quaestor of Taranto, Ispra, Puglia Region, Province of Taranto, Municipality of Statte, Arpa Puglia, Asl Taranto and Ares Puglia. The documents are also transmitted, "for appropriate knowledge, to the Prosecutor of the Republic of Taranto".

Postponed the signature, but only for a technical fact explain Mise, of the agreement between ArcelorMittal and Ilva in extraordinary administration. The signing was expected tomorrow, as established by the parties on 7 February when they obtained from the Court of Milan the postponement to 6 March of the hearing on the appeals filed in November: Mittal's summons to the commissioners Ilva, with withdrawal of the manager from the rent contract, and urgent precautionary appeal by Ilva against Mittal.

With the postponement, the signature would postpone early next week. The reason would be technical, in the sense that the procedure must be completed with the acquisition of the signatures of the ministers concerned, even if some sources would not exclude differences between ministers
