The daughter and some friends, all of whom are in primary school, logged one afternoon into the OmeTV app, even though the recommended age is 17 years.

The app is randomly paired with some unknown user. You start your camera on the mobile phone and then randomly meet a user in a "live video chat". You can easily move on to the next person and chat.

Masturbating men

The girls met both children and young people in the chat, but also something much more unpleasant: naked masturbating men. Repeatedly. Catherine's daughter took screenshots, ran home and showed the pictures.

- She thought it was very strange, she did not understand, why do men like this, says Catherine Andersson.

Parental responsibility

Mother Catherine is very proud of her daughter's behavior, that she dared to tell her at home. But she also points out the responsibilities of her and other parents.

- It is very important, we have a great parental responsibility to talk to our children about what they do on the internet, about the risks and not to blame or shame them. Children are curious. You have the opportunity to ban and control, I think every family can find what suits them.

Policies so no

The school was contacted, they acted by meeting concerned parents and in the weekly letter other parents were warned about the app. But when Catherine called the police to report, she said it stopped.

See in the clip above how Catherine Andersson tells about the police response.

My own account is linked to their screens / mobiles so I see what apps they download.

It's a little difficult because they usually don't want to be friends with me on the sites where they are members, but I do what I can.

I mostly try to download the same apps that my kids have and check them out properly. Understand the supply so that I know and understand what happens if we now have to talk about it.

We are in control, but the older the children, the harder it is to keep up. An innocent game where my son communicates with others can quickly take another turn.

A telephone or a computer connected to the internet is a window to the world through which everything possible is inappropriate and unpleasant for a child to see flows. Mom and Dad, you have to wake up! Putting a smartphone in the hands of a ten year old so that it can see and be seen by "naked masturbating men" is a sign that you have gone astray somewhere in your parenting. This is not something the police can solve for you; only you can find yourself.

It is best to raise the children in such a way as to make you aware of the risks you take with being online. Make your children safety conscious early. And of course it is important that you, as a parent, never share information, sensitive information, pictures, etc. about the children and family members. Unfortunately it fails in that part, that is my experience. Parents send sensitive information about their children via email and social media to both school and organizations, completely clueless. The information comes very easily in the hands of unauthorized and highly unsuitable persons. Those who want to hurt children very easily trace such information. In particular, it applies to children and young people with self-harm behaviors. Never give out sensitive information about your children! Be attentive and read on privacy issues, that is my best advice.

As a parent, you will never be able to have complete control over your children online. Even if you check what apps they have, there is the problem with adults who want to exploit children. They are looking for where children are. And in the worst case, pretend to be just one child, create relationship and then exploit the child. That is when it is important that you talk about the risks online so that the child dares to come and tell it to his parents. Preferably before it can go that far. Masturbating adult men forced is totally inappropriate whoever gets exposed as a child. But there is so much more to it. Most parents put a cell phone in their hands. If they do not have free access to the internet then they have free access to the internet of the friend. The problem lies in the fact that adults exploit children and our responsibility is to take action if young people are exposed no matter where or how. Banning children does not solve the cause of the problem.

As a grandmother, I am happy that my grandchildren are not exploited on social media. All these cute pictures of perfect family life are part of this. do not understand what the children are exposed to. Or ignore it. All for a nice facade.
