Receives 50,000 a month - Umeå Municipality continues with juicy offer

In 2018, the municipality of Umeå began offering experienced nurses a monthly salary of SEK 50,000 to work during the summer months. This year will be the third year, the concept has been turned on and you notice that it has produced results.

- Last year we did not have as many applicants, then we had a handful of nurses on the contract but then we went out late with the offer. Last year, there were 27 nurses who had SEK 50,000, says Björn Hammar, Head of Operations for Healthcare in Umeå Municipality.

The offer is valid for both nurses and paramedics (physiotherapists and occupational therapists).

According to Björn Hammar, the municipality has, thanks to the agreement, been able to reduce and in principle no staffing nurses at all. Among other things, this has reduced the OB cost for employees by SEK 600,000.

50,000 a month, isn't that an expensive solution?

- It is a lot of money but it has fallen out well. We did not have any more expensive operations between 2018 and 2019, but it is the same cost, he says.

How much the municipality saves on this solution does not have any exact figures. However, profits are made in patients.

- We get a continuity that we do not get when we bring in nursing staff and it is patient safety in this agreement that is also very important.
