The United Nations Postal Union welcomed the resumption of postal services between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the Emirates and Bahrain.

Stephen Dujarric, a spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed his hope for continued dialogue between these countries, and said that the international organization since the beginning of the Gulf crisis had hoped that the Gulf Cooperation Council countries could find ways to overcome them.

Dujarric added that the Universal Postal Union welcomed the resumption of exchange of postal services between Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, and that the mail sent would be exchanged between these countries through Oman, noting that the agreement came after the meeting held on January 29 in Bern, Switzerland, between representatives From these countries.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt had decided to resume the exchange of postal service with Qatar, which was frozen in the framework of the decision of the two countries - along with the UAE and Bahrain - to cut diplomatic and economic ties with Qatar nearly three years ago.

The "Bloomberg" news agency stated that the Saudi and Egyptian move follows a similar step with the Emirates side, while it is not clear yet if this step represents an indication of a wider change in relations between these countries.

A spokesman for the United Nations Postal Service, the United Nations, said on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia's decision to resume mail traffic with Qatar through the Sultanate of Oman indicates that the two sides decided to deal constructively with this issue.

A spokesman for the Saudi Post said that the postal service with Qatar will be resumed from Tuesday, while Egypt has resumed the postal service with Qatar via the Sultanate of Oman also since February 17, according to messages sent by the two countries to the Universal Postal Union.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain cut their economic, diplomatic, and air links with Qatar in June 2017, accusing them of supporting terrorism and interfering in the affairs of these internal countries, charges that the Qatari government denies completely.

The Universal Postal Union announced earlier this month that it had held a meeting of officials from the five countries in the Swiss city of Bern last January, with the aim of encouraging the five countries to improve the postal service between them.
