Chinanews.com, February 25th. According to the UN website, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Mladnov, reported to the Security Council on the 24th that the current situation in Palestine-Israel peace is lacking, so it only reiterates internationally agreed It is not enough to resolve the determinants of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. It is time to return to the mutually agreed mediation framework and ensure that meaningful negotiations can resume.

Mladnov told the Security Council that the situation in Gaza is escalating. On 23 February, the Israel Defense Forces opened fire on two members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad who attempted to place explosive devices in the outer wall of Gaza, killing one of them.

Since then, Palestinian Islamic Jihad personnel have fired more than 40 rockets at Israel, while the Israel Defense Forces carried out multiple air strikes in the Gaza Strip, injuring five people in Gaza.

The IDF also attacked Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in Syria on the 23rd, killing two people.

Mladnov said the United Nations is keeping in touch with Egypt in an effort to restore calm.

Overall, more than 100 ammunition were fired from Gaza into Israel in the past month, injuring four Israelis; more than 100 burning balloons were released from the Gaza Strip to Israel, many with explosive devices.

In response, the Israel Defense Forces fired 102 missiles at Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad targets in Gaza, wounding seven Palestinians, including two children.

Meanwhile, three Palestinians entered Israel from Gaza, threw explosive devices at Israeli security forces, and were shot dead by Israeli forces.

In the West Bank of the occupied territories, violence continues. In the past month, Israeli security forces have killed seven Palestinians, including one child, and injured 206 others. Palestinians also injured 16 Israeli security personnel and 7 civilians.

Mladnov said that since no possibility of meaningful bilateral negotiations was seen, developments on the ground continued to undermine the prospects for a two-State solution.

Over the past month, Israeli authorities have demolished or confiscated 28 Palestinian-owned buildings, and the owners of some buildings demolished 11 buildings on their own after receiving demolition orders, resulting in the displacement of 47 people. Eighteen of the demolished buildings are located in East Jerusalem.

Mladnov pointed out that the lack of a building permit issued by Israel was the reason for the demolition, but Palestinians could hardly obtain a building permit.

Mladnov said that in the West Bank, the threat of mergers still exists. After the United States announced its "Century Peace Plan" in late January, Israeli and U.S. officials said that merger steps could be taken only after a joint commission has completed a detailed map of the relevant area of the West Bank of the occupied territories. On February 15, the United States confirmed the establishment of the Joint Commission.

Mladnov pointed out that the Secretary-General has always opposed unilateral steps and merger plans. He emphasized that unilateral steps and possible mergers and similar actions would have a "destructive" impact on the prospects of a two-State solution. These acts will close the door to negotiations, have a negative impact on the entire region and seriously undermine opportunities for normalization and regional peace.
