Maria Ekendahl and her son from Stockholm traveled with travel company Tui to Tenerife on Sunday for a week's holiday. The following day, the news came that an Italian tourist in southwest Tenerife had been infected by the corona virus.

During Tuesday, 1,000 tourists were quarantined at the hotel, H10 Costa Adeje Palace, where the infected person must have lived.

- You are a little worried, worried that you will stay here, that there will be more quarantine activities. Just that you are sitting on an island and not coming home, says Maria Ekendahl.

Does not go to carnival

Today, a big carnival is held in Tenerife's capital Santa Cruz, which Maria and her son had planned to visit. Now Mary thinks they will not go there because of the spread of infection.

- Even though we are on the other side of the island, I don't think we will go there. It feels too risky indeed, she says.

Ekendahl says that they have not received any information about the situation with the virus from the tour operator.

- No, we haven't heard anything from Tui yet. We got a text message last night that they are so overloaded after it was sandstorm and fires when we came here. It took a very long time before we got information about it as well. So I expect that they have quite a lot to do, says Maria Ekendahl.
