“Marshal of the Soviet Union Dmitry Timofeevich Yazov was an outstanding military leader, a bright representative of the legendary generation of winners, a volunteer, a front-line soldier. A man of exceptional courage and fortitude, ”the telegram says to the relatives of the Marshal, published on the Kremlin’s website.

Earlier, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu called Yazov a legend.

Marshall died on Tuesday, February 25, at the age of 95.

Yazov will be buried at the Federal War Memorial Cemetery in Mytishchi near Moscow.
