Elliot got to experience his one-year anniversary, but died two weeks later.

- It was important for Elliot to get rectified, big mistakes were made against him, says Johanna Adolfsson.

She made the complaint after Ivo determined that the midwife had committed a criminal offense.

- Ivo didn't think I would make a police report. But when I talked to the police, they thought I would move on, says Johanna Adolfsson to SVT.

Pain stimulating drip

The accused midwife made mistakes that, according to the prosecutor, were so serious that they were criminal. The midwife increased the dose of pain-stimulating drip on five occasions, even though the painters were already getting too close. She did not call a doctor, despite alarming signs of poor heart rate in the child.

The child was subjected to gross negligence for bodily harm, according to prosecutor Elena Severin, who during the trial demanded that the midwife be sentenced to conditional sentence and fines.

Changed routines

Defense attorney Björn Hurtig thinks the prosecution should never have been brought.

- Just the fact that the hospital immediately changes all the routines in a way that the nurses have previously wanted shows that they realize that it was not a good situation in which they worked, he tells TT.

The midwife has admitted she made a mistake during childbirth, but it's not the same as admitting a crime, the lawyer emphasizes.

"Wrong prosecution"

The chairman of the health union Sineva Ribeiro thinks it is wrong to bring charges against health care personnel for mistakes committed in the service.

- It is terrible what has happened and I really hope that you have changed the routines so that this does not happen again. But most often when mistakes are made in health care it has to do with the system and if you just judge the individual, you lose the system. It can lead to even more mistakes, she says.

She believes that mistreatment should only be investigated by the Inspection for Care and Care (Ivo), which looks at the entire organization.

Johanna Adolfsson describes the Association's criticism as "unpleasant".

- I think it's unpleasant to say so. They have not wanted to cave in our case, but have said that in general care should not be prosecuted in the care. Often this is a system failure, but in our case it was clear that it was a person who made a mistake, she tells SVT.

"Nice with a finish"

On Tuesday, the verdict fell. The midwife was sentenced to conditional sentence with daily fines.

- It is clear that it will be nice that it is completely over. Honestly, we don't care much about what the verdict shows. Only that things have gone this far, that prosecution has been brought and that she has to be held accountable is very important, Johanna Adolfsson told SVT the day before the verdict fell.

This is how SVT reported at the start of the trial.
