According to the progress report, which is based on information from all regions according to a standardized template, there were protective equipment among the regions of Sweden that suffices for about 5,000 diagnostic visits and about 1,400 care days. This is according to data from an inventory made monthly change January-February this year.

Access to other equipment and materials is also considered to be good, according to the situation report.

“The National Board of Health and Welfare assesses that, from a national perspective, there is a good capacity in the number of relevant care places regarding inpatient care of patients with suspected or diagnosed covid-19 infection at present. Access to equipment, materials and care capacity may be affected if the situation becomes prolonged or the outbreak develops into a pandemic, ”the authorities write.

"Not very margin"

When it comes to healthcare professionals, the authorities consider that preparedness is good based on the current development of events.

However, according to Johan Styrud, surgeon in surgery and chairman of the Stockholm Medical Association, there are not many margins when it comes to the care situation in Stockholm.

- We have had an extremely stressed situation during the autumn, especially during the Christmas holidays and now this weekend has passed. Here at the hospital, we had canceled operations during the week that went by and the Southern Hospital was in staff position - so there is not much margin, he tells SVT News.

How do you think about it?

- You are worried that you need more care places. Should there be a crisis situation, you can always get a little more people in, but it will not be sustainable, because we are very close that it will not work.

So is there really no room for a rush of patients?

- It is difficult to answer because you can always move care. Planned care can always be canceled. But there is no large reserve capacity there, says Johan Styrud.
