A simple hole in a wall in Ilkeston (United Kingdom) has become a tourist attraction on the TripAdvisor website. This bull's eye in a tiled wall has become one of the best attractions in the city, in front of the local history museum or its churches.

The unpretentious architectural hole, located next to an ATM, was propelled to the forefront by very many glowing and ironic comments from Internet users. This Monday, Tripadvisor made the 62 reviews invisible and suspended the publication of new comments.

"It's always worth the nine hours on the road"

The success of the “Natwest Hole” (the Natwest hole, named after the adjoining bank) had caught the attention of local media as well as derisive comments. "I saw the Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Canyon," said a user. “But the NatWest hole is the most inspiring structure ever. "

"The way in which workers were able to build a structure of such magnitude in the 1990s is beyond imagination," said another. "Sixth visit to this attraction last week, it's still worth the nine hours on the road," jokes a third.

In September, TripAdvisor indicated that it blocked 1.4 million "fake" reviews in 2018 out of the 750 million comments it then collected. Some comments can be just fanciful, as this story shows, but others are sometimes used to manipulate the rating of an establishment, for good or bad.
