Guinea: tension and concern mounting as the March 1 poll approaches

The concern grows with the approach of the double ballot, legislative elections and constitutional referendum of this Sunday March 1st. The tension mounts in the various political camps while the opposition threatens to do everything to prevent the holding of the ballot, the speeches are radicalized and cause concern for associations.

On the one hand, certain voices in the opposition call to attack electoral materials and polling stations. Opposite, other voices, on the side of the ruling party, call to attack those who commit such acts.
" The signals are very bad," said Alseiny Sall of the Guinean Human Rights Organization. Speeches are becoming increasingly violent and hate messages are multiplying on social networks . ”
The Constitutional Court dismissed all the appeals filed by the opposition. And this time, the religious authorities, like the regional coordinations, failed to reconcile the positions, adds Kabinet Fofana, of the Guinean Association of Political Sciences.

The IMF and the World Bank have suspended their missions in the country. The concern dominates in Conakry the capital, with almost no sign of electoral campaign, apart from some posters.
The hotels are emptying, activities are slowing down in the ministries, the main members of the government and the executives of the ruling party are currently campaigning inside the country, as well as the President of the Republic.
What will affect the participation rate is rather the voters' lack of confidence in the EMB (the electoral management body) that is the CENI. In addition, there is the fact that the opposition withdrew from this process.
