• Asia.Donald Trump Jr. visits India with a new controversy under his arm

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, arrived on Monday in the Indian city of Ahmedabad (west) on his first official visit to the Asian country, a trip that takes place after a year of friction in the commercial camo.

Upon his arrival, Trump has promised to boost trade ties between the two countries and has said that the US is prepared to supply defense equipment to India, from drones to helicopters and missile systems.

"We hope to provide the best and most feared military equipment to India," Trump said, addressing a crowd of more than 100,000 people in a stadium in the western state of Gujarat, shortly after arriving on his first visit to the country.

The US president has added that he hopes to expand space cooperation between the two nations and that both sides are in the early stages of reaching an "incredible" trade agreement.

The American president and the first lady, Melania Trump , arrived at the international airport of Ahmedabad, in the western state of Gujarat, at 11.55 (6.05 GMT) where they were received by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

Trump's two-day agenda began immediately with a visit to the iconic ashram Sabarmati, in Gujarat, where the Mahatma (great soul) Gandhi pacifist lived for several years.

The central event of this day will be a mass demonstration in the new Motera stadium, where authorities expect about 100,000 spectators for the 'Namaste Trump', one of the largest receptions offered in this country to a foreign president.

Thousands of people have concentrated on the streets and inside the stadium to greet Trump's arrival, which is seen as a conciliatory gesture to reduce tensions between the two nations after a year of commercial friction.

India is a fundamental ally, in terms of size, economy, and location, that Washington needs to counter Beijing's influence in the region.

On this day, Trump will go to the city of Agra, to visit the iconic Taj Mahal mausoleum, before traveling to New Delhi, where tomorrow he will focus his work agenda on business affairs.
