The incident occurred in November last year. The pharmacy staff had a client with headaches, vomiting and neck pain and made the assessment that an ambulance needed to be called.

When it was almost two hours since the first SOS call, they called once more to ask where the ambulance had taken the road.

The emergency and ambulance disagree

In an internal deviation report, the explanation for the delay is missing in the communication between SOS and the ambulance staff. In a first position, the ambulance staff does not want to take care of the case but refers to the emergency room as the incident occurred "within the hospital walls".

The alarm operator then contacts the emergency department who says the opposite: It is the ambulance's job.

Thereafter, misunderstandings continue, which means that the ambulance arrives at the pharmacy and the patient only after two hours.

After the incident, the Gävleborg Region has clarified its routines for who should do what when similar occurs within the hospital walls.
