A great celebration for all new sixties. In Switzerland, the president announced on Thursday that she would celebrate her next birthday with all the Swiss who, like her, will be 60 years old on May 14, 2020.

"I am delighted that you have signed up for my birthday party," said Simonetta Sommaruga on Twitter when she extended the invitation. The Swiss concerned are requested to register via a form, and to attach a copy or photo of the identity card or passport.

Nearly 300 people born on that day

According to federal authorities, this anniversary will be celebrated near the capital, Bern. The number of participants will be limited. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 8,492 people were born in Switzerland in May 1960. The average number of people born on May 14, 1960 therefore stands at 290.

The socialist president began her second mandate by insisting on proximity to citizens. She presented her wishes for a Happy New Year 2020 from her neighborhood bakery in early January. Since the beginning of the year, she has held the annual presidency of the Swiss Confederation, a largely symbolic function, the seven members of the government exercising this function in turn.
