Former Minister of Budget of François Mitterrand of which he was one of the close relations, Michel Charasse died this night in the hospital of Clermont-Ferrand, at the age of 78 years.

The image that will remain of Michel Charasse is that of a man with a sparkling look, lover of suspenders, a cigar in his hand. He was part of this generation of somewhat earthy and good-natured politicians. He was also one of those whose advice was precious.

Michel Charasse, he was of course a close friend of François Mitterrand , the one who had accompanied him in the conquest and exercise of power, since he was his Budget Minister from 1988 to 1992. He was also the uncle gunner of the Mitterrandie who could be fierce in his distributed.

Appointed to the Constitutional Council by Nicolas Sarkozy

Michel Charasse had joined the SFIO at the age of 21, had become mayor of Puy-Guillaume in Puy-de-Dôme before becoming a senator and general councilor. And finally, it was Nicolas Sarkozy who appointed him to the Constitutional Council in 2010, two after his suspension from the Socialist Party, because he had supported a dissident candidate for the presidency of the general council of Puy-de-Dôme.

Michel Charasse had been sick for a long time. Emmanuel Macron had also visited him at the Clermont-Ferrand hospital last October. The head of state, who also presented him with the insignia of an officer of the Legion of Honor on January 27, saluted one of the “ most passionate servants ” of the Republic.
