After the announcement of layoffs planned in the Defense and Space division of Airbus, the group's employees in Spain are expected to mobilize on Friday, announced the union Workers' Commissions (CCOO), this Thursday.

The European group intends to cut 2,362 jobs in Europe, including 829 in Germany, 630 in Spain, 404 in France, 357 in the United Kingdom and 142 in other countries.

A second demonstration in March

"We will defend ourselves against this attack represented by the loss of direct jobs," Augustin Martin, secretary general of the Industry branch of CCOO, one of the country's main unions, told the press. Demonstrations are planned for Friday morning outside the eight production centers of the multinational in Spain.

Another protest mobilization of workers in "the entire aeronautical sector" of the country is scheduled for March, he said, but the date and location have not yet been determined.

"Spain cannot become a subsidiary workshop of the group in Europe"

This decision by Airbus is "a slap" inflicted on the government of the socialist Pedro Sanchez, said Augustin Martin, while CCOO claims the direct involvement of the Spanish state to demand from Airbus a series of commitments.

"Spain cannot become a subsidiary workshop of the group in Europe," protested the trade unionist. In Spain, the multinational has around 13,000 jobs, according to COOO, which estimates that the total number of jobs at risk cannot yet be estimated. CCOO is particularly worried about "the great repercussions this will have on small and medium-sized subcontracting companies".
