The kiosks surrounding the Lake of the Country House will undergo a comprehensive reform in the coming months, which will completely change the design of the spaces, on which it weighs and over time. The current concessions of the six restaurants, located on the south side of the lake, have been running out in recent weeks, and therefore the City Council of Madrid, specifically the Board of the Moncloa-Aravaca district, called a new contest to award the establishments late last year.

Among the winners of the concessions is the renowned Urogallo group, which already ran one of the kiosks and now has added another of the premises. This company has restaurants on Avenida de Valladolid, Majadahonda and Pozuelo.

Another of the prestigious hotel groups that lands in this area will be Tricycle, an elite gastronomy and catering company, which has three restaurants in the capital, Tricycle, Sua and La Elisa, which will run two of the kiosks.

The renowned Casa Remigio group will be in charge of one of the spaces after its successful experience leading the Café del Río restaurant, in the Madrid Río park, one of the most demanded places to hold events in the city, and the different kiosks of the park linear. This firm already handles restaurants in Cádiz or Cartagena de Indias (Colombia). Another of the kiosks will be run by the same managers who now manage El Embarcadero.

The concessions will be for 15 years with two extensions of five years each. Within the bidding documents, it was specified that all kiosks should have the same exterior aesthetics, dispensing with the chamizos and the tents, and giving the hoteliers the option of installing glazed pavilions with the same ornaments. Inside, each kiosk can be decorated as the winner of the concession wants.

"It is going to be a powerful gastronomic project", sources from the hospitality sector say about the modifications proposed by the Consistory, which wants to revitalize this area, very visited especially during the weekends.

According to the same municipal sources, the designs of the kiosks "will be similar" and the structures will have to comply with the opinion of the Heritage Commission, since the Country House is an area declared as a Property of Cultural Interest (BIC) . "What is intended is to maintain the services and preserve the identity and aesthetic aspect of this area," they say from the City Council, where they clarify that they want the projects "to be finished as soon as possible."

As this newspaper has known, until May or June it will not be able to open one of the first kiosks after the reform, so during the months of March, when the last remaining concession expires, and April there will be no open kiosk in the area.

Currently, only two restaurants are open in the lake area and will close on March 1 and 2. These stores had a 10-year concession that expired in 2017 and for which they paid an annual fee of 40,000 euros. Due to the works of the lake, which was emptied for cleaning, the businesses obtained an extension of more than two years although the annual price almost doubled since they went to disburse 75,000 euros a year despite the fact that the pond, one of the main Attractions of the area, was under renovation.

Some of the waiters who are still rushing their last day of work hope they can find a job in the new businesses. "We have been here for 10 years and we have many loyal customers who have asked us to continue," said one of the employees. "Except for two restaurants that others will follow, we stay in the street," said another of the kiosk professionals.
