Julien Denormandie will announce Friday on Europe 1 a government fight plan against bedbugs. A scourge that has made a comeback in the daily life of the French and that is ravaging homes and apartments. Especially since getting rid of these blood-sucking insects is very difficult.

We thought we'd gotten rid of it since the 1950s, but bedbugs are back more than ever. Friday, Julien Denormandie, the Minister responsible for the City and Housing, will come to Europe 1 to present the government plan to fight against these blood-sucking and particularly resistant insects.

In 2018, 400,000 sites were infested in France

"Today it is a real scourge. All of France is concerned," said Stéphane, who works for the company Derattack, which specializes in pest control. The number of affected apartments, houses and buildings has doubled in just 2 years. In 2018, 400,000 sites were infested in France. These bedbugs have also become more resistant to the seasons. "In winter, normally, the bedbugs do not come out. And there, we realize that we have a lot of people who have bedbugs, even in January-February," says Stéphane.

A long-awaited government plan

Bedbug victims necessarily expect a lot from the plan that Julien Denormandie is about to announce. Particularly for financial reasons. Indeed, getting rid of these invaders has a cost: between 7 and 10 euros per m². The infested people therefore claim a financial boost from the State. Professionals demand more clarity regarding everyone's responsibility, for example between the tenant, the owner and even the neighbors.
