Earlier, former Deputy Prime Minister Vitaliy Mutko announced a deadline in the schedule of work to restore infrastructure after floods in the Irkutsk region.

In December 2019, the acting head of the region, Igor Kobzev, announced that it was planned to complete the flood response by August 2020.

Dmitry Medvedev, who served as prime minister, said infrastructure needed to be restored by 2023.

Flooding in the Irkutsk region began in late June 2019 due to heavy rains. As a result of the natural disaster, 25 people were killed, seven more were missing.

The total number of victims amounted to more than 42.5 thousand people.
