Several jars with tongues and other human remains were found Monday by a real estate inspector in the basement of a house in Gainesville, northern Florida (USA), allegedly forgotten by a medical researcher at the University of Florida (UF), located in the same city.

The remains, which were well preserved, date from the 1960s, according to the digital First Coast News.

The fact became known when a home inspector who performed repair calculations found at least six jars with human remains.

The bottles contained tongues and thyroid tissue, supposedly stored in their former property by Dr. Ronald Baughman, a pathologist who apparently, and when he moved away several years ago, left them forgotten.

The media quotes Gainesville police spokesman Jorge Campos, who explains why the remains may have been stored under the house.

"It was a great area to preserve things, but with the work that (Baughman) was doing at the UF, he never succeeded and forgot that they were under the house, " the spokesman explained.

Baughman's ex-wife, who still owns the house, confirmed to the police that her ex-husband was a pathologist who was investigating at the UF.

Police have taken the remains to the coroner's office to verify what time they date and confirm that they belong to Baughman.

"They have been communicative from the first moment. That is why in our preliminary investigation we did not find anything criminal, we just need to verify everything," Campos said. The authorities affirm that it is not uncommon to find human or animal remains in the case of a "very given" area for investigation.
