The Association Homan in Gothenburg works for human rights with a focus on asylum seekers and newly arrived LGBT people, the majority of whom come from the Middle East. They respond to the email that a profiled imam in Gothenburg has sent out to the Inter-Religious Council in Angered where he himself sits. In the email he seemed to equate female genital mutilation with gender correction.
- It feels sad, you get very sad that you have to compare the two with each other. That is not possible at all. Genital mutilation is torture-like intervention and gender correction is a natural thing, you do it because you were born in the wrong body, says Ardeshir Bibakabi.
