A 59-year-old man was taken into police custody at the La Baule police station after a collision in Pornichet. The 50-year-old is suspected of having voluntarily hit a dog on the road, on January 26, reports the national police.

That day, a greyhound had just escaped the supervision of his young master, a 10 year old child, when he arrived in front of a car forced to brake. The motorist lectured the boy and then stormed off, kicking the dog.

Tried for cruelty

The parents arrived quickly and discovered their crying son and the injured dog, who could no longer walk. The motorist was summoned to the police station but affirmed not having seen the dog nor heard the cries of the child, in spite of the contradictory declarations of a witness, specifies the police.

Prosecuted for an act of cruelty to an animal, he will be tried in December by the Saint-Nazaire correctional court. As for the greyhound, he was treated at the veterinary university hospital center of Nantes.
