France: opening of a judicial investigation targeting Carlos Ghosn

Friday, February 21 will be examined at industrial tribunal the procedure initiated by the former CEO of Renault-Nissan, Carlos Ghosn, to request retirement benefits from Renault. In a completely different part of the case, the Nanterre public prosecutor's office announces the opening of a judicial investigation against X for abuse of corporate assets at Renault.

A preliminary inquiry had been opened a year ago. The public prosecutor's office now transmits the file to an investigating judge. The investigations also relate to “ aggravated breach of trust, false and use ”, or “ aggravated laundering of abuse of corporate property ” for acts committed between 2009 and 2020.

The list is long and concerns several cases in reality. According to a judicial source, this concerns in particular festivities at the Palace of Versailles. Two evenings raise many questions: justice suspects a party to have taken place in honor of the 60 years of Carlos Ghosn .

A strictly professional event

According to an internal audit, two-thirds of the guests were close to the businessman. But recently, the deposed boss maintained that the event was strictly professional. The other event in the crosshairs is the rental of the Grand Trianon for his wedding.

Carlos Ghosn is also in the sights of the office of fight against corruption and financial and fiscal offenses. In question, there are suspicious financial flows between Renault and SBA, the distributor of the French car manufacturer in Oman.

One of Carlos Ghosn's lawyers judged that this opening of information " was not very significant news ". He reserves his explanations for the magistrate. Another information is already underway in Paris, relating to contracts signed by RNBV, the Dutch subsidiary co-owned by Renault and Nissan.
