20 February 2020There is also the director of the Taranto military arsenal, Rear Admiral Cristiano Nervi, among the 12 people involved in the investigation by the Guardia di Finanza the award of 15 contracts for 4.8 million euros related to modernization works and repair of naval units supplied to the Navy of Taranto. The various accusations are of association for delinquency, disturbed freedom of enchantments, corruption and aggravated theft.

Entrepreneurs and two civilian employees of the Navy are among the recipients of the precautionary measure.

According to the investigations, conducted by the military of the Economic-Financial Police Unit of Taranto, the awards of 15 contracts launched by the Arsenale and the Naval Station of the Navy of Taranto, in the months from October to December 2018, were piloted for a total of 4.8 million euros.

In particular, for a tender of around € 3 million, relating to the fleet modernization works, there was an artificial splitting of the original contracts into 11 tenders. This is to ensure - according to the prosecution - to each company managed by the entrepreneurs under investigation to win a portion of the works and to achieve a greater profit.

The order for pre-trial detention is signed by the magistrate of the Court of Taranto Benedetto Ruberto at the request of the assistant prosecutor Maurizio Carbone.
