• Waters Algeria invades Cabrera

Vox pressures the Government to explain what are the measures it has already taken and which it intends to take before the "invasion" by Algeria of the sovereignty of the waters of the island of Cabrera , in the Balearic Islands, after the unilateral decision of the country African to extend its exclusive economic zone.

Specifically, the Santiago Abascal party has presented a battery of initiatives in Congress to clarify this issue. On the one hand, he has requested the appearance of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya, and, on the other hand, has presented different requests for information and some documents to know the current situation of the maritime space of the National Park, which is the affected part .

The overlap of Spanish territorial waters in the area of the Balearic Islands has its origin in a decree of Algeria of April 2018 but it has not been until now when the Balearic Government led by Francina Armengol has realized.

The news known, Vox hastened to present a battery of parliamentary initiatives to force Minister González Laya to appear to report to the Foreign Commission the Congress on what actions are being taken before the "interference" in the sovereignty of the Spanish waters as a result of the declaration of exclusive economic zone by Algeria.

In parallel, Balearic deputy Patricia de las Heras has also requested various documents from the Government to prove Spain's response. Specifically, it has claimed access to the "complete administrative file" as a result of the decision of Algeria. It also asks for information on the status of "bilateral negotiations" with the Embassy of the Algerian Democratic and Popular Republic, and "communications maintained with international organizations such as the United Nations."

At the same time, Vox has recorded two written questions. One on "what measures" will be taken and "what channels" will be followed to solve "the invasion of Algeria over the Spanish waters". And another on what plans are there to "avoid the exploitation of maritime resources." These two questions will be a priori the first ones to be answered because the Government has a period of 20 days to give account to the parliamentary groups.

For Vox, Algeria has unilaterally exceeded and "exorbitantly" the equidistant midline between the Algerian and Spanish coasts. "These limits far exceed the equidistance that should apply in case of discrepancy to reach a bilateral agreement between opposite or adjacent countries, as established in article 74 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea of 1982", The game says.
