February 19, 2020 Italy ensures a relatively good quality of life for children and adolescents, but does not think about their future, given that it falls in the 'sustainability' ranking. In fact, it ranks 26 / m out of 180 countries for the survival and well-being index of the youngest, while it is only 134 / ma as regards the per capita carbon dioxide emissions. The picture emerges from the "A Future for the World's Children? 'Report, launched today by a Commission of over 40 experts, nominated by the World Health Organization, Unicef and Lancet magazine.

The analysis shows that the top 5 places that ensure the best conditions for children are Norway, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, France, Ireland. While children in Central African Republic, Chad, Somalia, Niger and Mali face the worst odds. As far as CO2 per capita emissions are concerned, the United States of America (USA), Australia and Saudi Arabia are among the ten countries with the worst data.

"Today's children - underlines the president of Unicef Italy Francesco Samengo - face an uncertain future. Climate change, ecological degradation, displacements, aggressive marketing, conflicts and persistent inequalities threaten the health and future of children everywhere, even in our country ".

Italy, in fact, underlines Samengo, "with 5.99 tons of CO2 per capita: it emits 121% of CO2 per capita more than the 2030 target". And if global warming, in line with current projections, exceeds 4 degrees in 2100, the report recalls, there will be devastating consequences for children's health, due to rising ocean levels, heat waves, proliferation of diseases such as malaria and dengue fever and malnutrition.
