February 19, 2020 Both parents of the newborn who died Sunday evening following a rear-end collision and the explosion of the air bag of his father's car have been investigated for manslaughter by the Pisa prosecutor's office. Confirming the news, reported this morning by the Tyrrhenian Sea, the prosecutor specified that the registration "is in relation to the expert assessments arranged": that is, the autopsy scheduled for the child this morning and the report on the operation of the airbag.

It was in fact the outbreak of the vehicle safety device that caused the death of the child who was inside the baby seat placed on the front seat of the passenger at the moment of impact between the Citroen Berlingo driven by his father, 38 years old, and the car that was in front and that had just hit another vehicle. Mum, who was sitting in the back seat with another child of the couple, was also investigated. Brandon, the newborn who died a few hours after the accident, suffered head and thoracic trauma, both of which were very serious, due to the airbag bursting. Now the consultants will have to ascertain whether the opening of the airbag is due to a malfunction or negligent conduct.

Prosecution could be changed to manslaughter
The charge of departure, contested by the deputy prosecutor, is that of simple manslaughter, but it cannot be ruled out that during the investigations it may be changed to manslaughter.

Weighing is the evaluation of the non-deactivation of the passenger's airbag after having placed the egg with the little Brendon on the passenger seat (he would have completed two months last Monday). A violation of article 172 of the highway code governing the placement of children with certain weight and height characteristics in the passenger compartment. For the Prosecutor's Office, that prescription had to be respected when getting the child into the car.
