• Pirate pay TV, unleashed abusive platform: over 5 million users

February 19, 2020 For the first time in Italy, 223 people have been identified and reported, responsible for purchasing pirated subscriptions on the internet that allowed to view the contents of the main pay-TV platforms (films, series and sporting events). The operation of the Guardia di Finanza - Special Goods and Services Unit - is still in progress and also aimed at identifying further possible parties involved.

By purchasing subscriptions of this type, customers are responsible for the crime of receiving stolen goods. The copyright law provides for the confiscation of the tools used for the use of the service: consequently, in the event of a conviction, 223 customers will be confiscated TV, PC and smartphone. The sanctions also provide for imprisonment of up to eight years at a fine of 25,000 euros, in addition to legal costs.
